The Uttar Pradesh government will provide free bus rides to women on Raksha Bandhan, which falls on August 11 this year.
Women in the state will be able to travel for free for 48 hours from 12 midnight on August 10 to midnight of August 12 in buses of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), a government spokesperson said.
The UPSRTC has been providing free travel service to women passengers during the festival of Raksha Bandhan for the past several years. Around 8-10 lakh women avail of the service every year.
Rakshabandhan, one of the most popular Hindu festivals, is an annual occasion celebrated throughout the nation to commemorate the special bond between siblings. Traditionally, on this day, sisters tie rakhis on their brother’s wrists and both of them exchange gifts.
