Govt nod to women CRPF for VVIP security duty

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will introduce women personnel to guard various VVIPs of the country. This is for the first time that women personnel will be deployed for VVIP duties. After getting a nod from the ministry of home affairs, their selection process has been completed. The first batch of 33 women personnel will soon start their 10-week training session.

According to sources, “Initially 6 platoons of women personnel will be raised. The deployment would be done on a ‘need basis’ but few dignitaries will get women personnel from the first batch. Women VVIPs would also be on the priority list.”

The selected women CRPF personnel will get training to fire assault rifles such as AK-47s.

Sources claimed that the decision was made in the wake of witnessing violence during the West Bengal elections on leaders during their rallies. The introduction of women security personnel will be a priority ahead of the poll season in Uttar Pradesh, among four other states next year.

A home ministry official confirmed to News18 that a plan was sought from the CRPF which gives protection to the highest number of dignitaries in the country presently.

The CRPF guards provide security to high-profile dignitaries including Union home minister Amit Shah, top Congress leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
