Kerala’s Mathrukavacham

In a drive to vaccinate pregnant women, Kerala launches campaign titled ‘Mathrukavacham’

As Kerala’s vaccination drive is still underway with 5.3% people administered both doses of vaccine, the state is gearing up to vaccinate pregnant women too.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George has announced a campaign titled ‘Mathrukavacham,’ a vaccination drive for pregnant women in the state.

The registration window for the same will be opened soon. Asha workers will also be assigned to ensure the vaccination of pregnant women in their localities.

This initiative comes in line with guidelines that now approve of pregnant women getting vaccinated at any stage of their pregnancy.

The guidelines have, however, also highlighted that if a woman gets infected with Covid 19, it is advisable to take the jabs after childbirth.

For the vaccination of pregnant women, the state will organize special vaccination camps.

Note: Unless an official announcement is made, people either vaccinated or not, are advised to wear masks, maintain proper hygiene and maintain physical distance.
