“Dreamer” Sirisha Bandla jets off to space today

Indian – origin Sirisha Bandla is all set to make a journey to the edge of space today. She will head into outer space as part of Virgin Galactic’s first fully crewed flight test, with the company’s founder Sir Richard Branson and five others on board.

The space mission termed “Unity 22” is scheduled to take off from New Mexico at 6 AM PT or 6.30 PM IST.

Sirisha Bandla is the second Indian – born woman to fly into Space after Kalpana Chawla. 

Currently, she is the Vice President of Government Affairs and Research Operations at Virgin Galactic.  

The 34-year-old aeronautical engineer was born in Andhra Pradesh and brought up in Houston, USA. A Prude University alumna, Bandla always had a dream to become an astronaut since childhood.

“I am so incredibly honored to be a part of the amazing crew of #Unity22, and to be a part of a company whose mission is to make space available to all,” Bandla had tweeted.
